Hank And Lefty Raised My Country Soul

Daddy had a 1941 Ford when I was just about ten years old
And we would listen to Hank and Lefty on the radio
Singing "Why Don't You Love Me Like You Use To Do"
And "Just Look What Thoughts Can Do"
Well Hank and Lefty raised my country soul

I learned how to sing and shuffle my shoes
Listening to Hank play the "Lovesick Blues"
I never met ol' Hank, but we were awful close
I cut my teeth on "Always Late"
And "I Loved You A Thousand Ways"
Well Hank and Lefty raised my country soul

Daddy said the hair on his neck would crawl
When Ol' Hank sang about the life he saw
And Hank sure put a whole lot of heart in the songs he wrote
And anytime Daddy got a lit bit tight
"Mom And Dad's Waltz" would make him cry
Ol' Hank and Lefty raised my country soul

I learned how to sing and shuffle my shoes
Listenin' to Hank play the "Lovesick Blues"
I never met ol' Hank, but we were awful close
I cut my teeth on "Always Late"
And "I Loved You A Thousand Ways"
Well Hank and Lefty raised my country soul
